Artist explores the softer side of dog breed using flowers and hats as props in order to stop them from being neglected.
Pit bulls may be seen as vicious, killer animals by some but these portraits show them as cuddly ‘hippies’.
The new art exhibition shows rescue animals dressed with flowers in their hair to change traditional ideas about the pet that has been known to attack humans.
Sophie Gamand, the photographer behind Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution, approached rescue groups in New York City to try and generate interest claiming as many as one million dogs are put down in US shelters
The photographer then set up her studio in the kennels and proceeded to photograph some of the pit bulls that were up for adoption.
Speaking about her work, Sophie said: “I decided to take the other route and portray them like hippies, soft fairy tale inspired characters, feminine and dreamy.”
The New York based photographer has been focusing on dog photography for over four years to raise awareness of various dog charities and causes.
